Hello, my name is Derek Harris and I am the new intern here at GREP. I am currently a senior at West Chester University where I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration on public policy. I recently graduated from West Chester University’s Honors College which focuses on building leadership and communication skills. In addition, I am currently working on my Master’s degree in Public Administration with a focus on Non-profit management.
Background
I have lived in Reading, Pennsylvania since I was born. I graduated from Wilson High School in 2014. After graduating I attended West Chester University. My interest in politics was grown throughout my high school career through leaders like Chris Daubert and Kevin Barnhardt. I previously worked for Hamid Chaundry, and seeing his commitment to our community helped inspire me to pursue public service. With this career path, I plan to focus on working in either in government or a related field such as a non-profit. I am graduating in December and plan on staying in the Greater Reading area to reconnect with the community and work on making a difference.
In my free-time, I enjoy attending concerts, visiting friends, cooking and volunteering. My love for cooking stems from a love for eating. Some of my favorite places to eat in the Greater Reading area are: Taste of Crepes in West Reading, Wyomissing Family Restaurant in Wyomissing and Austin’s in West Lawn. Greater Reading offers some awesome opportunities to see live music like the Downtown Alive concert series. What is better than great music, friendly people and being right in the center of our city?
I am excited to be working with GREP this Fall and I look forward to keeping this community updated on all of the exciting events happening here in Greater Reading!
Talk to you soon, Derek.
