Fall in Pennsylvania is a magical time. The leaves transform into a starburst of the deepest reds and the brightest golds. The air is crisp and the smell of smoke from fire pits is enchanting. But all Berks Countians know Fall is never complete without a trip to the local orchard. We happen to have some of the most amazing orchards in our area. Today we’re looking at Subarashii Kudamono, Ontelaunee Orchards and Weaver’s Orchard.
Subarashii Kudamono
Subarashii Kudamono is not your typical farmer’s stand. They do not have a stand in which they sell their fruit, instead, they sell online. They grow pears most people have never even heard of, let alone tasted. This unique farm has created a handful of unique pear varieties only available from their farm. In addition to their unique pear varieties, they craft wines and spirits using their fruit. The wine which they make ranges from sweet Niagara-like whites to complex and dry Rieslings. These wines can be found in your local Pennsylvania based Fine Wine and Good Spirits stores. Ontelaunee Orchard
Looking back at the other beverages made from local fruit, Fall is the perfect time for a nice glass of Apple Cider. Here in Berks, we have some of the best ciders around! This summer, Ontelaunee Orchards won 1st place at the 2017 Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention Cider Contest. Weaver’s Orchard
Weaver’s Orchard is one of the most famous orchards around. They have over thirty varieties of apples and they even have their own special apple. This is the premier pick-your-own destination in Berks County, and it is fun for the whole family. In addition to their selection of fruit, they have an excellent farm market which sells everything from their own apples, baked goods, to locally roasted coffee.
