Building Berks Background
Modeled after Brooklyn New York’s Building Brooklyn award, Randy Peers brought the idea of a real estate and construction award to the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, the Building Berks awards. With 2018 being our inaugural Building Berks Award show, projects that are eligible had to have been completed between January 1, 2016 and June 1, 2018. Nominations can come from someone with involved a project or a community member. The awards will highlight the investment these projects make in our community and their impact.
Why is GRCA hosting its First Annual Building Berks Award?
The impact of investment through construction and real estate projects cannot be understated. Our business community continues to reinvest in the Greater Reading Area and this award show will highlight their importance. In our Economic Forecast for this year, the Finance, Insurance and Real Estate sector was one of the largest drivers of our economy. It represented 19.5% of our County’s GDP (Reading Eagle). We want to see our community continue to grow, without new development that is impossible. We are lucky to be home to some of the best companies in the construction industry and this recognizes the great work they do.
As the development of new buildings and repursposing of exisiting buildings, of all types, is iritcal to ensure our local economy continues to grow and provide opportunities for businesses and individuals alike, we want to celebrate those who are contributing to the construction of new and/or adaptive buildings.
