West Reading is one of our community’s most vibrant Downtowns. They have plenty of food, drinks and shops to explore. If you are looking to shake off your Winter blues and get ready for Spring, look no further than West Reading. In the next few months Penn Avenue will look totally different. A handful of new businesses opened recently and there is another group opening this summer.
The new businesses which recently opened are: Vintage Flava, Café Flourish & Tony Al Taglia
Vintage Flava
A new retail vintage store. They carry clothing from the 1980s to the early 2000s. Streetwear, band tees and vintage designer is all available at their 550 Franklin Street location. See what they’ve got in stock on their Instagram: vintage_flava
Café Flourish
The newest addition to West Reading, Café Flourish occupies the space where Café Bold used to be. They carry Staufroasters coffee and a variety of treats like paninis! Stop by and say hello to the newest business in West Reading.
Tony Al Taglia
Recently profiled in the Reading Eagle, Tony Al Taglia specializes in portable food. West Reading has plenty of great businesses to visit so grabbing a slice and walking around is a perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon. If you are looking for your new favorite slice shop, this is the place to try.
What’s Coming Next?
The biggest announcement for West Reading is the Public Private Partnership created to tackle the issue of parking. The large parking lot outside of Chef Alan’s and CVS will be converted to a pay-to-park lot so towing will no longer be an issue. Through the help of BB&T’s grant, a parking meter will be installed and the going rate will be $1 per hour.
Beer. Lots of Beer.
Beer Wall.
It is exactly what it sounds like. A wall of beer. The idea behind the concept is a card you can reload, serve yourself from the numerous options and get back to socializing. Cutting out the middleman (bartender) allows you to try new things and stay engaged with your party. “The self-serve technology is pretty big and moving around from place to place, especially where the craft beer scene is right now,” explained Benjamin Hinkel, the Beer Wall’s head chef. “In California and Colorado, there’s a few, but around here, there’s nothing really like it.”
Nitro Bar.
The old A-to-Z Vacuum building is being renovated and repurposed to be a bar, restaurant and lounge. The first floor will serve food and drinks. The second floor is a longue, with the third floor being reserved for events and parties. There will be an indoor parking garage attached to the building so access will be extremely easy.
Sly Fox
A block away from Penn Avenue, Sly Fox is opening their second location in the old Vanity Fair Building. They will serve food, beer and host events at their new location. Don’t expect goat races like their home location, however, the space will be perfect for your next party.
West Reading has been an awesome area for entertainment, food and drinks and shopping in the past. These new additions will only help to bolster their offerings. With some new unique attractions like Beer Wall, West Reading will become a destination for some and a home for others. The new Lofts at Narrow can help make West Reading your new home.
