Is there a succession plan in place? Not yet. This is a new business being built with intention of handing down to family. It is too soon to know if they will want to pursue it.
What is the mission or core purpose of your company?
KinEco Site Services was built to fill a specific void I recognized while running large-scale construction projects: the gap between wanting to support local vendors and needing the ‘one-stop-shop’ convenience of a national chain.
My mission is to give contractors the best of both worlds. We’ve stepped into the market as a portable sanitation provider, but our long-term purpose is to provide full-setup site logistics
What are you most proud of as a family business?
After 30+ years of managing projects and crews for other companies, my most significant milestone was taking KinEco Site Services from a concept to an operational reality.
There is a specific satisfaction in moving through the planning phase to actually taking delivery of my service truck, applying the decals, and staging the first units. We are in the infancy stage, but successfully launching a business built on my own standards is the achievement I’m most proud of. We are officially on the ground and ready to execute the vision.
How would you describe your company culture?
I am a big proponent of the saying, ‘A rising tide raises all ships.’ In building KinEco, I committed to a specific hierarchy for everything we consume: start with ‘Made in the USA,’ prioritize family-owned small businesses, and always look for a local supplier first.
A great example of this is how we handled our equipment decals. Instead of just going to the three major companies in the Midwest, I met with a local print shop representative at a GRCA event. The next day, I had my truck and a unit in his parking lot to discuss UV protection and adhesives. We are currently researching options that can handle the abuse of a job site. Once we nail the quality, I plan on letting my competition know there’s now a local source available. If we can help a neighbor grow their capabilities, everyone wins.
What advice would you offer to other family-owned businesses?
The goal for KinEco is to become the premier full-scale site logistics provider in the region. We’ve started with sanitation, but the plan is to expand into specialized services that provide construction companies a partner that handles the logistics so they can concentrate on the build. Long-term, I want to use the experience I’ve gained over 30 years to help develop the next generation of skilled tradespeople, ensuring the ‘handshake’ standard of business continues
